The Norwegian Short Film Festival is taking place for the 48th time, and will take place in Grimstad from June 11-15.
This year there were a total of 3289 entries!
Among all these films, 152 have been selected for competition, divided into four competition programs.
“It has been a great privilege to see the short films that have entered this year. There is an incredible breadth and an insight into the world that is the absolute unique strength of short films. It has been a difficult choice, but it is with great joy and pride that we announce this year’s competition program!”
Anita Svingen,
General Manager of the Short Film Festival
The Norwegian Short Film Festival is one of Norway’s most important meeting places for the film industry, and a unique platform where new debutants and well-established players meet. There will be visiting filmmakers, not only from Norway, but also from all over the world, as well as jury members and guests. Every year, there are also representatives from important international festivals, such as Sundance, Toronto, and the Berlinale. The short film festivals are Norway’s only Oscar-qualifying film festival. Read more about this year’s film entries here:

The short documentaries will be shown in program blocks together with the Norwegian Short Film (NKD) and International Short Film (IKD), but constitute a separate competition with its own Golden Chair for Short Documentary. The Program Committee for Norwegian Short Film and Norwegian Short Documentary (NKD) says they are proud of this year’s program. “After looking through all the entries, it is tempting to conclude: The golden age of short films and short documentaries is now! The general level is very high – the films are professional, thought-provoking, crazy, serious and personal”

The Music Video (MV) Program Committee shares that it has been an honor and a pleasure to delve into this year’s entries. They further elaborate: “In an era where short visuals and content for social media have taken on a major role in music dissemination, it is gratifying to see that the music video is still standing strong – both in its classic form and in interaction with new digital expressions”.

The International Short Film and International Short Documentary (IKD) Program Committee, together with the pre-selection committee, has reviewed and assessed a total of 2,836 films. “The worldview is far from a glamorous one, which is reflected in the enormous number of films submitted. Despite all the darkness, the filmmakers have not let dystopian feelings take over, but perhaps quite the opposite: We see a noticeable flood of new forms of expression and approaches in the presentation of history – a development that often occurs in the context of rights being threatened or disappearing.”
