Toronto Int. Film Festival presents

The TIFF Short Cuts team is thrilled to keep sharing our love for short form storytelling with friends at the Norwegian Short Film Festival. Featuring some of the most exciting new voices in North America, this year’s programme includes six films that made their world premieres at TIFF in 2022. It leads with Crystal Kayiza’s lyrical Sundance prize-winner REST STOP and closes with Aziz Zoromba’s SIMO, a kinetic tale of two teenage brothers bearing the weight of cultural identity, that took home TIFF’s Short Cuts award for Best Canadian Short. We’re also delighted to showcase Kenya’s Mbithi Masya, who returned to TIFF last year with his heartbreaking short BABA after winning the FIPRESCI prize for his feature debut Kati Kati in 2016.

The lineup also includes SHE ALWAYS WINS, Hazel McKibbin’s nuanced take on a young woman’s crash course in the art of relationship power plays. On the documentary side are UNTOLD HOURS, Daniel Warth’s delightful peek into a Toronto artist’s meticulous creative process, and AGAINST REALITY, Olivia Peace’s deeply personal reverie filtered through the lens of A.I. technology.
