Scarce

Escasso

A political mockumentary that never talks about politics. Rose, a «professional dog walker» has occupied a vacant house and now calls it home: the realization of a dream.

Gabriela Gaia Meirelles

Clara Anastácia and Gabriela Gaia Meirelles are a creative duo living in the Brazilian diaspora, interested in discussing the space of an ugly film, made in a country that exports beauty. Scarce is the first short film of a trilogy they call «decolonial melodramas».

Gabriela Gaia Meirelles is a filmmaker, screenwriter and multimedia artist born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She studied Cinema at PUC-Rio and has been working with conception and formatting of audiovisual projects. Her work seeks the intersection between the syncretism of popular culture, the subversion of gender roles and fantastic realism in search of the construction of decolonized perspectives and narratives.

Clara Anastácia is a black Brazilian screenwriter, born in Pavuna, in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. Self-taught, she has been developing work aimed at inclusion and diversity. In 2020 she joined the writing room of a Netflix Brazil’s series directed by Daniel Filho and written by Ana Maria Moretzsohn. In 2021 she joined Netflix’ Creative Collaboratory, a project that selects the best young black creators in Brazil and proposes an in-depth study in screenwriting techniques in order to create content for the platform. Scarce is her debut film.
