Films can be submitted in the following categories:

• INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM

  – Deadline international documentaries: February 1st, 2025 (late deadline February 15th)
  – Deadline Norwegian documentaries: March 15th, 2025
  
  
• NORWEGIAN SHORT FILM
  – Deadline: March 15th, 2025
  
  

• NORWEGIAN MUSIC VIDEO
  – Deadline: March 15th, 2025
  
  

The Norwegian Short Film Festival is an Academy Award® qualifying festival in the following categories: Norwegian Short Film, Short Documentary and International Short Film.

Rules & Terms

Short Films must not exceed 35 min running time.

Short Documentary Films must not exceed 40 min running time.

To qualify for competition, international films must be completed after 15th february 2024 and norwegian films after 15th march 2024. Films completed prior to this date risk disqualification.

For International submissions: Only completed films are eligible for consideration, works in progress or unfinished films will not be considered. 

The criteria for Norwegian entries are that the film’s director or main producer is a Norwegian citizen or permanent resident. 

Please make sure you submit in the right category, if not you may risk disqualification and no refunds will be made. If you have a hybrid film and are unsure where it would fit in, please contact us at submission@kortfilmfestivalen.no.

All registration goes via FilmFreeway.com, where you must create a free user profile for your film. Here you upload the film directly or enter a link to an external platform. The film’s page should have both a Norwegian and English description (preferably 350 characters or less), technical specifications, information and credits, as well as still images and possibly trailer. If selected, this is the information and images we will use online and in the program.
If information is missing, it will say «not specified». 

A pre-selection committee, appointed by the festival for each category, will watch all submissions and make the final selection. We are not able to give feedback on films or reasons for the committee’s decisions.

Selection notifications will be sent to all filmmakers in the beginning of April 2024.
Our notifications will be communicated from FilmFreeway and sent to the person stated as responsible for the film registration. NB! Therefore, be sure to activate email notifications from your FilmFreeway account.

If selected for competition we require a projection copy or file, which must be delivered or transferred by April 25th, 2025. Standard format is DCP, but we accept other formats to convert. NOTE: Wraptor-made DCPs are not compatible with our cinema’s servers, and will not be accepted.
