Once again, film strategist Kathleen McInnis returns to the festival to lead a masterclass on the use of the filmmaker’s VOICE in merging creative and business development. This year, before spotlighting Award-winning filmmaker Ellen Ugelstad’s smooth transitions back and forth between the short and feature length film formats.
In the first part, Kathleen will guide filmmakers through practical exercises to find, cultivate and use their voice. She will expertly guide you through practical steps to identify your own, unique and authoritative voice as a filmmaker. Learn how to translate your creative language into a marketing language to entice and inspire audiences, and how to use this language to position yourself on the global film stage.
In part two, Ellen joins Kathleen on the stage for a case study conversation around Ellen’s current feature documentary THE RECOVERY CHANNEL (2024). Ellen is a two-time Kortfilmfestivalen Golden Chair Award-winner with The Green Valley (2018) and The Wonders Beneath the Sea (2021), and she also received the Writers’ Guild’s Hourglass Award for The Meeting Room (2017).

Kathleen McInnis has over 30 years’ experience as a festival programmer, film publicist, strategist, and producer. She’s been discovering, introducing and supporting emerging world cinema talent through her work in premiere film festival programming, film producing, and strategic publicity at A-list festivals around the world.
Oslo-based filmmaker Ellen Ugelstad received her BFA in Motion Picture and Television from the Academy of Arts University, in San Francisco. She is founder of the collective 21 Pictures, an independent production company focusing on film, art and distribution. Ugelstad’s work often explores the thin line between sanity and insanity, the hierarchy of power, and different forms of reality. Her hybrid feature THE RECOVERY CHANNEL had its international premiere at CPH:DOX 2024.
