AN UNUSUALLY WARM FILM ABOUT THOSE WHO FALL OUTSIDE OF SOCIETY – AND ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO RIGHT OLD WRONGS.
Several years ago, Tekla left her Georgian home and hasn’t been heard from since. Her aunt, the retired teacher Lia, is now determined to locate her niece. Lia reluctantly teams up with the neighbourhood boy Achi, who claims to know where to look for Tekla – in Istanbul.
The unlikely pair find Istanbul to be a beautiful city bursting with colour, life and dreams. However, it’s not easy finding someone who doesn’t want to be found in a city of 15 million people. Then one day they meet Evrim, a lawyer fighting for the rights of trans folks. With Evrim’s help, Lia and Achi feel that their endless wandering through the back streets of Istanbul is finally leading them closer to Tekla.
CROSSING is an energetic and moving drama full of humour and warmth – and characters you will grow to love. It starts as a tale of two people reluctantly reaching across the generational gap between them. But through the different meetings depicted in the film, it becomes a rich portrayal of Istanbul street life – where human lives are forever crossing paths and the smallest gesture of kindness can mean the world.
Levan Akin’s previous film, AND THEN WE DANCED (2019), was a big hit. With CROSSING he once again returns to his Georgian roots. The result is a beautiful and brave tale with warmth, strong acting, and a sense of authenticity which will connect this film with your soul.
