With Happy Cries is part of the project Vor Suplicas. The text is from the 18th century and waswritten by a poor cottager, Østen Kjørren, from Heidal in Gudbrandsdalen. Although this is a Christmas song, there is little snow and few happy families to be found in the lyrics. Kjørren conveys a fervent hope of being free from all the torments and distress of the world.Vor Suplicas is a project with a clear commitment to climate and environmental issues. With Happy Cries stands on its own as a Christmas song, but can also be read as a desire to take better care of our planet and each other.
