The Norwegian city Tromsø, located around 69° north, has an annual two-month period of darkness, called Mørketid (or Polar Night). January 21st, the day the sun finally returns, is called SunDay.
Christian Uhlig is a self-made and independent filmmaker from Hannover, Germany who moved to Tromsø, Northern Norway in 1990. Inspired by the possibilities of time-lapse photography he launched a project called, An Arctic Fairy Tale, in 2014. A about 40 minutes long time-lapse animated nature film visualizing one “Arctic Light-Year”. Inspired by the overwhelming positive response, he continued exploring time-lapse photography for nature film production. More than twenty of his time-lapse animated films have screened at international film festivals.
