The last Dutch bowling club, Kegelen, in the city of Leeuwarden is approaching its 100th anniversary. With only nine members left, all over seventy, and the high costs of maintaining the historic bowling lanes, the club is at risk of disappearing.
Eza Doortmont is a Dutch documentary filmmaker. After graduating School for Journalism she got a masters in Visual Anthropology at the Grenada Centre, University of Manchester. In her work she focuses on human contact, small stories of real people with strong character-driven narratives and a clear visual vision. Her films have a focus on small communities, ordinary people, their perspectives, repetitive processes, embodied knowledge, and everyday life. It balances on the edge of quaintness, showcasing a deep fascination with impermanence and the act of capturing.
In 2023 she participated in the STE Pitching forum at Kortfilmfestivalen where her pitch for The Club received an honourable mention.
